Ranjan Kumar Mohapatra, former Director (HR) of Indian Oil, is an accomplished leader. With extensive experience in the energy sector, specifically as Director (HR) in Indian Oil for more than five years, he played a pivotal role in driving the growth and success of IndianOil, the largest oil refining and marketing companies in India. He is currently the Chairman of International Federation of Training & Development Organisation (IFTDO), Geneva. Apart from being in the Board of Governors of RGIPT and Executive Board of Fore School of Management, he has served as Executive Board Member of Standing Conference of Public Enterprises (SCOPE) and also in different senior positions in All India Management Association, FICCI & CII among others. A successful Business Head, Dr. Mohapatra seized the supremacy of technology at BITS Pilani, during his Mechanical Engineering days and the dominance of Management functions at Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar. Dr. Mohapatra has also been conferred with the Doctor of Philosophy, Honoris Causa by Manav Rachna Institute of International Research and Studies for Corporate Leadership and was Recognized as ‘HR Leader of the year’ by ETHR at Economics Time Human Capitals Awards in 2021. Besides being the driver of excellence for 31000-plus employees at IndianOil for more than five years, he had been inspiring transformational changes as the Chairman, President and Board Member of the International Federation Training and Development Organization, Trustee Secretary of IndianOil Foundation, Chairman of Skill Development Institute, Bhubaneswar, Chairman of the HR Committee – FICCI, Member, Advisory Committee, Institute of Chemical Technology – IndianOil Odisha Campus, Member of Board of Governors, Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology, Amethi, Executive Board Member at Fore School of Management, Member of Committee on ease of doing business – CII, and Executive Board Member of the Standing Conference of Public Enterprises (SCOPE). As a successful Business Head, he turned around the Sales in West Bengal State Office as its ED and State Head. During his stint as Managing Director of Indian Oil (Mauritius) Ltd, the wholly owned subsidiary of Indian Oil in Mauritius, he led a young group of professionals in turning around the company to make it to the list of ten top companies in Mauritius.

During his illustrious career of over three decades with the 'Energy of India', IndianOil, Dr. Mohapatra had a tenure spanning more than 5 years and two months as Director (HR), during which he led multiple endeavours that significantly added transformative value to the Indian energy sector. Dr. Mohapatra's vision to catalyse socioeconomic progress by enhancing energy access left global imprints when he led IndianOil's Mauritius operations with remarkable success for more than three years. In very recent past, under his leadership as Chairman, Lanka IOC had created ripples in the energy landscape of island nation Srilanka registering remarkable market share and profitability growth.
A firm votary of inclusivity and diversity, Dr. Mohapatra's empathetic leadership, had ushered in a vibrant culture focused towards enhanced organisational growth and productivity while valuing individual aspirations. His resolve to transform IndianOil into a futuristic learning organisation had reaped rich dividends through endeavours he conceived, like the organisational digital platform of Swadhyaya, the largest self-learning platform among Indian Corporate World today. He has also ideated and spearheaded multiple CSR initiatives for IndianOil, like Vidushi, Medha Chhatravriti Yojana, and Aarogyam. As someone who champions the cause of harnessing synergy through the continuous sharing of knowledge, Dr. Mohapatra has published various articles in international journals and supply chain reference books. He has also presented papers and delivered lectures at several international forums.
Dr. Ranjan Kumar Mohapatra's humane side of leadership came to the forefront during the pandemic as he led IndianOil and the industry to rise above challenges and deliver excellence while serving the energy needs of 1.4 billion Indians. Dr. Mohapatra went beyond the call of duty to extend to support the company's contractual workforce, channel partners, extended family of stakeholders and other marginalised groups. Acknowledging his exemplary leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Public Relations Society of India bestowed upon him the 'Pride of India' award.
His relentless focus on harnessing the magical power of sports to usher in sustained social changes helped IndianOil emerge as one of the country's leading curators of sporting talent. His vision had also inspired sporting endeavours that seek to steer forward gender-equity goals. Under his guidance, IndianOil became first corporate to support India's International Women's Hockey players with a full strength Hockey team. Under his leadership, IndianOil also collaborated with the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports to extend comprehensive support to young girl athletes under the project "IndianOil Shakti."
Leading beyond Boardroom, Dr. Mohapatra's belief in compassionate leadership also yielded remarkable results when as the Chairman of CII Odisha State Council in 2019-20, he undertook several endeavours to facilitate the state's progress. Dr. Mohapatra has also been a prominent Member of the Asia Pacific Resource Centre of Global Compact Network India (GCNI) -a non-profit society which functions as the Indian Local Network of the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC), New York.
