CIPD to work with UK Civil Service to strengthen capabilities of HR professionals

The CIPD has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the UKs Civil Service which outlines how the two organisations will collaborate to professionalise and upskill HR professionals in the UK Civil Service. There are around 4,000 staff in CSHR who will benefit from the arrangement, which comes at a crucial time, given the inevitable changes taking place in the UK Civil Service in response to the UK’s decision to leave the European Union. The arrangement confirms CSHR’s commitment to building a strong, high performing HR community that can best support the hundreds of thousands of employees in the wider Civil Service workforce. The MoU, which runs from 2016 to 2026, will enable this by agreeing that the CIPD will work with the CSHR to:

  • Provide CSHR staff with relevant qualifications and professional accreditation via Upgrading and Experience Assessment, enabling CSHR practitioners to be professionally CIPD qualified
  • Provide access to CIPD membership and in turn, a range of research and development tools to support CSHR practitioners in their current role and their career development
  • Collaborate in creating joint events and networks to build a strong, professional community across the Civil Service
  • Share the latest thought leadership in HR and collaborate on specific projects relating to the future of HR and the world of work
  • Integrate or link the CIPD’s services to those provided centrally by CSHR/Civil Service Learning (CSL), ensuring that CSHR practitioners have a clear understanding and access to the services available
  • Work together to create a common framework which defines HR capabilities and skills, underpins CSHR career paths and provides a picture of overall skills and skill gaps in the CSHR
